Elements of Worship
I.
CANDLE LIGHTING
The candles represent the Humanity and Divinity of Christ. They are lit 5 minutes prior to service starting. Light the Right first and then the left.
To Extinguish the candles at the end of service, Light from the right; extinguish the left and then the right.
II.
PROCESSIONAL
For now, we will process in the order in which we sit with the “Preacher for the day” being the last person to process.
Acknowledge the cross reverently and then take your seat.
III.
CALL TO WORSHIP/INVOCATIONAL PRAYER
Read prior to service to ensure pronunciation and to make correct inflections.
The prayer can be printed prior if you are uncomfortable praying without script.
IV.
CHILDREN’S SERMON
Make sure the information is pertinent and understandable to the children. Also, make sure, if at all possible, you get to their level.
V.
COMMUNITY PRAYER
Make sure you get a list of the prayers from the website (have them print it Sunday morning) as well as the prayer book in the back. Invite folks IF they are comfortable to hold hands. Make sure to use INCLUSIVE language.
VI.
SCRIPTURE READING
If you have signed up to read the Scripture, please practice prior to Sunday morning to ensure that you read it clearly. Make sure that people will hear the Word and not what or how we say it….(people will focus on what we are focused on).
If the Scripture is from the Gospel, please make the announcement to “ In honor of the Word of God, please rise as you are able for the reading of the Gospel.
Please make sure to make the reading as inclusive as possible.
VII.
CALL TO OFFERING
Make it personal, make it encouraging. Prayer included at the end.
VIII.
ANOINTING
Prayers are confidential, Spirit filled; Reminder that we are NOT counselors; Make note of traffic received and act accordingly.
IX.
COMMUNION
Line up at the back (come to back at the ending of last song of anointing).
Line up as follows:
Acolyte for Choir position (1/2)
Acolyte for Altar position (3/4)
Acolyte for A/V Room position (5/6)

Note: Consumers are in 1, 3, 5
Remember:
Diversity (mix of ALL types of people represented. If mix isn’t there, we will make changes to ensure what we present is a mix of people.
Be inclusive; use inclusive language.
Do not be offensive (speech, body odor, breath)
Make prayers short (we aren’t praying them into heaven )
Those directing, pay close attention to the flow and respond accordingly.
Consumers: The person in the middle is the lead for the table; Make sure to follow them. Bread, Juice, Water. Leave once the Lord’s Prayer is over.
X.
RECESSIONAL
Leave in the opposite way that you processed.
